Our Friends at Front Porch Bakery

“It all started with a dream, and a raisin pie.” According to Melissa Holt, owner of Amish-style Front Porch Bakery located in Claremore, Oklahoma. As a small, family-owned business ourselves, we have a very soft spot in our heart for the dreamers and doers in small business.

Nestled on the scenic roadside of historic Route 66 lies a quaint little cottage-like building that is known for serving up some of the best desserts, pastries and even Oklahoma BBQ, in the state. Previous to pursuing her long-thought dream of owning her own business, Melissa worked in corporate America for more than 30 years. One day she simply felt the pull to finally take the leap, so what was to simply be picking up a raisin pie as a gift turned into owning her own bakery a week later.

Her support in her business is clear. ”We couldn't have come this far without our family, who have been a tremendous help sharing recipes, tips and contributing their time at the bakery,” she thankfully mentions. Melissa admits her business would not be successful without the support of their exceptional customers. “We are incredibly blessed to have this opportunity and so thankful for everyone who is a part of making this dream a reality.” It is because of her wonderful customers’ support that she keeps busy by making more than 150 loaves of bread, 500 dozen cookies, 300 pies and 1,000 cinnamon rolls every month.

When asked why Melissa chooses Miller Pecan Company as her pecan supplier she said, “you just can’t beat fresh Oklahoma pecans.“ She also noted, “it’s nice that they are cheaper than a food distributor since you are dealing with the grower and not a middle man.”
